Often, microfinance institutions do not pay attention to issues of information technology infrastructure although it is the lifeblood of their business.

Thus assessment of Telematics Research Institute Chief Dimitri Mahayana Sharing Vision after the workshop ‘Microfinance Business & Information Technology’ Vision Sharing held at the Royal Plaza, Singapore. He also gave an example, one successful microfinance institutions in the world is the Grameen Bank.

The Bank, founded by Nobel laureates Muhammad Yunus has successfully become the economic pillar in Bangladesh for applying information technology.

“The success of Grameen Bank is not separated from the role of IT. How IT can become the life of them. And they managed to create their own applications they use for their own banking activities. This is incredible,” said Dimitri.

On the other hand, he added, also needed four adequate information technology systems infrastructure in order to achieve success like the Grameen Bank.

“The system has been considering the safety and smooth operation, supported by policies that protect customer data, including education to customers, as well as having a clear business continuity plan,” he continued.

He said the management of the organization; managers must also prepare the readiness of human resources, risk mitigation, capital capability, and good governance and true.
